ArTips©-The newsletter dedicated to the business of art.

Sometimes practical, sometimes techy, always helpful.

Do you have a business plan?

As an artist, it's important to know how to get to where you're going. If you don't even know your goals you may want to consider writing a business plan.

It doesn't have to be a long technical drawn out document. Start with why you are an artist, and what success looks like to you. Consider who you want to be selling to, and how you're going to reach them. What marketing techniques work for you and what doesn't work for you? How much time will you devote to your art and how much time do you need to devote to your business? And don't forgot to list those who you give your business to, like art suppliers and framers.

For a more in-depth guidelines, read the Business Guidelines for Emerging Artists. Or if you prefer to have something in-hand, you can purchase Jonathan Talbot's The Artist's Marketing & Action Plan Workbook. Both are excellent resources.
