Who is Rita Fetter? At this point in time, I write a business column for artists for the Artist's Equity newsletter, and am the webmaster for both Artist's Equity and Friends of Artist's Equity. I also wrote a business column for artists for over three years for Art Matters, a Philadelphia regional publication. I am a Virtual Assistant who specializes in working with professional visual artists. My background includes almost 25 years of clerical, secretarial, and administrative experience before I started my own business. During that time I have been employed exclusively in the Philadelphia suburbs, working for a variety of large and small companies and fields, including computer, legal, financial, security, medical testing, government, and most recently, pharmaceutical, in both permanent and temporary assignments. Over the years I started to show increasing interest in and proficiency with technology, starting with the IBM Mag Card, to telex, electronic memory typewriters, and finally personal computers and the Internet. I've had the opportunity to become skilled in many software packages--word processing (Word, Word Perfect, Word Star, SperryLink/OFISLink), spreadsheet (Excel, Lotus 1-2-3), contact management (ACT!), web development (Dreamweaver MX, FrontPage 2000, FrontPage 2003), presentation graphics (PowerPoint, Harvard Graphics, Gem Draw), database (Access, Paradox), DTP (Ventura Publisher), OCR (OmniPage Pro), PC-fax (WinFax Pro), and time management (Project), to name a few. This allows me to provide a wide range of services to my clients, from creating personalized letters for a group of over 450 people, to web site updates. Today I continue to expand my knowledge base and learn new applications. In addition to learning technical skills, I have also been called upon to act as a coordinator by handling arrangements for many on and off-site meetings, as well as managing large corporate projects, and as a customer service rep, by speaking with clients and customers on the phone, answering questions, and providing information. Armed with the experience and skills obtained in the corporate world, it was time to move forward in my career. But I felt something was missing. Instead of the analytic thinkers I had always worked with, I wanted to use my skills to work with creative, right-brained professionals. The result is a dramatic change in my business direction, and my entry into the art world.
